David Trubridge will show at 2012 Wanted Design in New York presented by his American Distributor WakaNINE. This exhibtion marks the North American launch of Baskets of Knowledge which are based on a New Zealand Maori myth. On show will be the recently released mini Grow lights: Koura, Kina and Hinaki. Also on display will be a new range of outdoor Coral lights made from aluminium in America licensed by wakaNINE. Some sneak peeks will include LUUP table which is a new knock down furniture concept and jewelery by David inspired by his lights.
David Trubridge Design has at last moved into its own brand new premises. The building was designed by David to incorporate our workshop, design studio and, most exciting of all, a showroom. We have never had this public space up until now, nor has there been a place where all our lights could be seen in one place, particularly the big showpiece ones. In fact, there can be very few similar venues in the world where you can meet the designer and his team in their studio, see a display of the actual designs themselves, and watch the fabrication happening out the back through a glass window.
Tipu is the Maori word for sprout, grow, increase, develop. Here we are expressing our spreading awareness of, and connection to, Nature. This 2 metre convex light is built with an organic, irregular pattern which reflects Nature's growth. It was designed by David Trubridge and signals an exciting new direction in his design development. The material has been specially developed in conjunction with Scion Laboratory and the Bio Polymer Network in New Zealand using plant based plastic and local flax fibre. It is assembled using only a heat gun to fuse the pieces together.
We have arrived back from Auckland after launching Ebb, Wing, Coloured Corals and Florals, New Ulu and Luvial Lamps at the Simon James Design Store. It was a great turn out and was a fantastic night thanks to all the crew at Simon James. The show started 22nd July and ends on the 21st of August. We also extend our gratitude to Cloudy Bay winery for their support in supplying their wine for the event. We have worked with Cloudy Bay recently to design a wine display plinth and an ice bucket for their 25th anniversary, which were also on display at the launch.
Melbourne Design store Mondo Luce hosted the Australian launch of Ebb in June. Designer David Trubridge was at the event which included sensuous canapes, champagne and the official unveiling of the new Mondo Luce showroom. On display was the new range of Ebb, and Sola , a large Sun like sphere which was part of David Trubridge's 'Icarus' installation in Milan this year (see Wing and Sola below). A great event thanks to the team at Studio Italia.
In New York David had a solo show at 'An Earnest Cut and Sew', 821 Washington, NYC 10014, for 6 weeks from 19th May. He also showed some new designs in the 'essenze' stand in ICFF from May 19-22.
