David's House

This is the house that David designed and built for his own family in Hawkes Bay. All walls are solid masonry : their thermal mass makes the house very warm in winter and cool in summer. This is ideal for the Hawkes Bay climate which is hot and very dry in summer, and cool in winter. The bright colours are essential for the very strong clear light of the area.

The design draws lightly on Mediterranean, Mexican and Caribbean influences, but it also expresses the lifestyle and atmosphere of Hawkes Bay. Over the last six years he has designed about thirty houses, mostly in Hawkes Bay. One of them received three Master Builders' Awards, including that for thermal efficiency.
