Free Design

In 2008 David created a single page PDF design instruction for a light shade that can be made in anyone's home with minimal tools. The page exhibited in Brussels as part of an exhibition organised by Word magazine, called 'Follow the Word'. It featured a range of international artists and designers including Damien Hirst. We regularly have interns working with us, so we thought it would be a good idea to continue the concept, by asking them to produce one of these designs for us to put up on our website here for a free download.

The criteria:

  1. One page only
  2. All hand drawn and written – no computer!
  3. Can be easily made at home with minimal tools
  4. Preferably use recycled, not newly bought materials

All designs are creative commons, freely available for one-off creation only but remaining copyright of the designers. So help yourself and have fun! David's initial leaf lamp shade is included here. If you have an idea you would like to submit please contact us
