Bleux Design Sydney

David Trubridge for Bleux

We are very proud to announce the new fruits of a collaboration with Sydney based, graphic design company Bleux. The results are an interesting melding of the large, bold and colourful Australian way with a more muted, detailed New Zealand feel for landscape. They have translated a collection of David's hand drawn sketches into a range of applications from wall coverings to glass textures. Most of their work is designed for each location allowing for individual customisation that is unobtainable with off-the-shelf designs. We look forward to an exciting future working with them.

INQUIRE ABOUT WORKING WITH US

Coralia - Available in various colourways.

The bursts and radiating lines of Coralia began in one of David's travel-worn sketchbooks. It is a meditative pattern, emerging from years of seeing structure and pattern in nature. You might see in it the split lines that form around the face of a cut-off log or the inside of a kiwifruit...

Meander - Available in various colourways.

We walk across a mountain ridge, following its lines; the edge of the bush recedes where it meets the river; an insect wanders on its journey across the sand, intent with purpose known only to itself; these are the sensations of meander. This flowing-forward, slow-moving fluidity is what inspired the design. Meander has a wonderful negative space that gives it depth, amplified by the alternating darkening of the pattern. We also used this pattern as a safety strip on the windows at our premises.

Crystalia Bleux Interior Design David Trubridge

Crystalia - Available in various colourways.

Crystalia also begun on a bus or train as David scribbled in his sketchbook, subconsciously translating his experiences. There are two energies at play here; the finger-like fronds stretching to their boundaries, then fragmenting into magnified cells or soap bubbles. This design was chosen to adorn all of our kitset boxes which make up our Seed System. The pattern was also cut from 1mm stainless to form a 16 meter sculpture for the facade of our showroom, which is really just a larger form of packaging.

Sand Lines Graphic Interior Wall Decal Bleax Trubridge

Sand Lines - Available in various colourways.

This design begun quite differently. It was drawn by the outgoing tide and photographed by David. This photo spawned the Sand Shade light which has a half-cut pattern into the 1.5mm bamboo.  A subtle twist in the design is the now-you-see-it-now-you-don't quality which it exudes, illuminating the pattern only when the light is on. Sand Lines was taken by Bleux and made into a more graphic version.

Sola - Available in various colourways.

Sola has taken the component of the David Trubridge light of the same name and repeated it in a looser 2D pattern scattering it like fallen leaves in a forest. The Sola light was designed for a major installation at Milan Design Week in 2010 based on the the Greek myth of Icarus. David felt a pertinent story was playing itself out again in real life; we have been blessed with boundless knowledge and technologies but are at serious risk of demise through their abuse. Sola is the response to the beauty and power of the sun, the ultimate light we seek to replicate.
